Columbus Crew skipper Jonathan Mensah is set to miss Ghana's game against Japan in the 2022 Kirin Cup due to head injury.

The 31-year-old suffered a head injury during the second half of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Central African Republic and Ghana at the 11 du Novembro stadium in Luanda on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

Mensah suffered a headbutt from an opponent resulting in a concussion.

The former Ashanti Gold was discharged from Clinica Girasol – a private hospital in Luanda – Angola on Monday but he won't be fit enough to feature for Ghana.

Coach Otto Addo's team been plagued by injuries and several positive COVID-19 test.

As it stands now, 18 players are currently in camp in Kobe for the competition which kicks off on Friday, June 10, 2022 – with Ghana set to face the host in the opening match.

Some of the players are out for varied reasons ranging from injuries, illness and other personal issues.
