Ghana will return to action in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Sunday, June 18.

The Black Stars are aiming to feature at the next AFCON to have another chance to try and finally end the long trophy drought that spans four decades.

Ahead of the game, Group E where Ghana is pitted has been blown wide open.

This follows the result of the first Round 5 match of the qualifiers between the Central African Republic and Angola.

Angola beat the Central African Republic 2-1 in their encounter staged at Stade de la Reunification on Saturday to climb to second on the log with eight points.

The win for Angola has now increased the pressure on Ghana to beat Madagascar on Sunday to stay top of the Group.

The Black Stars must gather every ounce of their strength to defeat Madagascar and secure its place at the summit as the fight for qualification heats up.

Coach Chris Hughton and his lads since last Monday have trained very well and are ready for the task ahead.

While the gaffer is aware the game will be tough, he is confident that his boys can get the win.

What is at stake?

If the Black Stars secure all three points from the game against Madagascar, Ghana will qualify for the 2023 AFCON to be played in Ivory Coast early next year.

Any other result will mean Ghana will have to wait for the final round of the qualifiers to know the qualification status.

Ghana possible starting eleven:

Lawrence Ati-Zigi (G), Alidu Seidu, Denis Odoi, Joseph Aidoo, Daniel Amartey, Thomas Partey, Salis Abdul Samed, Mohammed Kudus, Joseph Paintsil, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Jordan Ayew

Match details:

The match between Madagascar and Ghana is scheduled to be played on Sunday, June 18.

The game will kick off at 14:00gmt at the Stade Kianja Barea in Antananarivo.
