The Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mark Addo believes the Black Stars were nervous early in the 1-0 win over Angola at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Ghana needed a late goal from AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo to beat the Palancas Negras in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

Fans have complained about the scrappy nature of football they’ve played but Mark Addo thinks the weather was not favourable.

“Playing your first game as head coach of the Black Stars is not easy. Even aside that the weather was very warm,” he told Asempa FM.

“Most of the players ply their trade abroad, to play in this hot environment is not easy.

“There was also a bundle of nerves. There’s pressure in Kumasi. The fans want the win, they want goals.”

The win means Ghana leads Group E with seven points from three games and will face Angola in the reverse fixture on Monday in Luanda.
