Following Southampton’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the fifth round of the FA Cup, Southampton manager Russell Martin expressed confidence in Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana’s potential to become a vital player for the team.
Reflecting on Sulemana’s missed opportunities in front of goal during the match against Liverpool, Martin addressed the winger’s troubled injury history, which has impacted his career since his time at Stade Rennes.
“It’s now about staying fit in order for him to get to the level he is capable of. He is a young guy who is learning all the time and will be an important player for us. I think he is a little frustrated that he has had injuries, then got into a flow and then had to come out with injuries again,” Martin conveyed to Daily Echo.
Despite Sulemana’s potential, he is yet to score for Southampton this season due to ongoing injury battles.
His absence from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for Ghana underscores the significance of maintaining fitness for both club and country.
