Kwesi Appiah, the newly appointed head coach of the Sudanese national team has revealed that his target is to qualify the national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup.

The 65-year-old last week signed a three-year deal and was unveiled in Saudi Arabia where the team is currently based.

After supervising two games, Appiah won one and drew one.

Speaking on his target given to him by the Sudanese FA, the Asante Kotoko technical director revealed that his immediate mandate is to qualify the team for the 2025 AFCON and the World Cup in 2026 which will be hosted in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

"The target I have been given is to build a team and ensure the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup and the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations," he told Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com.

"The only challenge is that there is no ongoing league due to the ongoing war which has forced them to operate from Saudi Arabia but I hope order and peace will be restored in the country," he added.

Sudan will take on Togo and DR Congo in the World Cup qualifiers next month.

Kwesi Appiah is assisted by former Medeama SC and Dreams FC coach, Ignatius Osei-Fosu and former Black Stars goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda as the goalkeeper's trainer.
