Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi, says he was hopeful of meeting Ghana at some point at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and prove a point against their traditional rivals.
He has revealed that he has many friends who are Ghanaians and was hoping to meetin the Black Stars in Ivory Coast show who is superior after Ghana stopped the Super Eagles from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
He described how Ghana exited the tournament as sad because of how he saw the team react to the exit at their hotel.
Nigeria went on to finish as runners-up to Ivory Coast while Ghana did not win a single game.
“I have a lot of friends outside the team that are Ghanaians,” the AFCON runner-up told Joel Bortey in an interview.
“It’s almost like you want them to do well so you can play against them and prove a point in the competition but it’s a shame because the way they exited with the sort of players they have was a bit sad to see.”
