The Minister of Youth and Sports in Ghana, Mustapha Ussif has disclosed that government spent $195,244,153 to build infrastructure for the 13th African Games.
For the first time in history, the African Games will be hosted in Ghana this month.
Addressing a press briefing in Accra on Monday, March 4, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif said, “The total contracts sum for the provision of facilities for the Games, approved by the Parliament of Ghana, amounted to $195,244,153
He disclosed that the funding for the projects, relating to the provision of the facilities for the hosting and organisation of the Games has been good as all contractors have been paid.
In his address, the Sports Minister said the completion of sporting facilities for the hosting and organisation of the 13th African Games, Accra, 2023 underscores the commitment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the development of sports in Ghana.
Mustapha Ussif said the facilities at Borteyman, especially the Aquatic Centre are also one of its kind in the whole of Africa.
He said this will make Ghana a Centre of sports development on the continent.
