There will be loads of action this weekend in the Ghana Premier League when the recently started season continues.

After the first two rounds of games, the league campaign will enter matchday three this weekend.

On the matchday, games have been scheduled to be played from Friday, September 23, through to Monday, September 26, 2022.

The biggest fixture of them all will be the game between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The game which will be the first Super Clash of the new season will be played on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors club since the start of the 2022/23 football season has not featured in any league match.

This is because of the team’s involvement in the CAF Champions League preliminary stage.

Unfortunately, the Kumasi-based club suffered elimination from the competition after losing to RC Kadiogo.

With the elimination from the CAF Champions League, Asante Kotoko are now turning its attention to the Ghana Premier League.

This weekend, the reds will play the first match of the league season in an encounter against eternal rivals Hearts of Oak.

The Phobians started the new campaign with a trip to Dormaa to take on Aduana Stars.

At the end of a very tough contest, the Phobians lost by a goal to nil and returned to Accra with no points.

Subsequently, on matchday 2, Hearst of Oak welcomed Great Olympics to the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday 2.

Despite a top performance from the team, the side only managed a draw and picked one point.

Up next for Hearts of Oak, the team is set to face off with eternal rivals Asante Kotoko in the first Super Clash of the new league season

Player to Watch:

Gladson Awako – In the absence of Hearts of Oak poster boy Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who has been tormenting the Porcupine Warriors, Gladson Awako could be the main man for the Phobians this weekend.

The former Olympics man was in top form last weekend when Hearts of Oak came from behind to draw 1-1 against the Dade Boys. He will be key this weekend as well.

Probable starting eleven – Asante Kotoko

Danlad Ibrahim (G), Christopher Nettey, Yussif Mubarik, Sherif Mohammed, John Tedeku, Richard Boadu (C), Enoch Morrison, Isaac Oppong, Georges Mfegue, Samuel Boateng, Steven Mukwala.

Probable starting eleven – Hearts of Oak

Richard Attah (G), Samuel Inkoom, Dennis Korsah, Mohammed Alhassan ©, Konadu Yiadom, Eric Esso, Daniel Kodie, Gladson Awako, Yassan Outching, Isaac Mensah, Junior Kaaba.

Predicted scoreline:

Asante Kotoko from the games played in the CAF Champions League has looked like a weak side.

The team will show up for the derby and do well but it will be hard to earn a point. A 2-0 win for Hearts of Oak looks to be on the cards if Samuel Boadu selects the right strikers for the game in the absence of Afriyie Barnieh.

Match details:

The first Super Clash of the season will be played on Sunday, September 25, 2022. The game which will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will kick off at 15:00GMT.
