Ghana winger, Joseph Paintsil has revealed the winger position is the most competitive in the Black Stars setup.

Ahead of the matchday five games against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the head coach of the side, Chris Hughton is expected to name two wingers for the game.

Jordan Ayew, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Osman Bukari, Paintsil, Ernest Nuamah, Andre Ayew, and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer are all wingers who are currently at the camp of the team.

In the back-to-back game against Angola played in March, Jordan and Sulemana got the nod but it was two substitutes Paintsil and Bukari who combined for the equaliser.

Speaking to 3Sports, the KRC Genk admitted that the most competitive spot in the Black Stars at the moment is the wings.

“The winger position is the most competitive in the Black Stars. We have a lot of strong wingers who are strong and talented. It’s a competition not only for the wingers but the whole team. On the wing side, it’s competitive but we are all one team and we enjoy seeing each other player," he said.

The former Tema Youth winger was quick to point out that the competition is something that the rest of the players enjoy.

“We are not bothered by whoever starts because we know the quality of each player and believe in each other. It’s a lovely thing to have competition because it gives us the confidence to do more. The aim is to ensure that Ghana qualifies for every competition.”

The Black Stars will face Madagascar on Sunday knowing that a win will book a ticket to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The game has been scheduled to kick off at 17:00GMT.
