North Tongu's Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is urging the immediate dissolution of the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) search committee responsible for selecting a new coach for the Black Stars.

Ablakwa underscores the imperative need for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation's sports structure and advocates for the establishment of a national sports policy to regulate sporting activities.

Recent allegations by Ablakwa suggest that the Youth and Sports Ministry budgeted approximately $8.5 million for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a budget that did not receive parliamentary approval.

Addressing reporters in Kumasi, he calls on the GFA to halt the coach search committee's activities, highlighting the absence of a national sports policy and questioning the strategic vision for Ghana's football.

Expressing his dismay over the lack of a FIFA-certified pitch in Ghana, Ablakwa urges a suspension of international sporting competitions until fundamental issues in the country's sports infrastructure are addressed. He insists on disbanding the coach search committee, criticizing the hasty appointment of coaches without a clear roadmap for the sport.

"There's a need for us as a country to overhaul our sporting departments. I'm appalled that Ghana doesn't have a national sports policy. You keep hiring coaches, but what is the vision for our sports, especially football? What is the plan for our infrastructure? Ghana lacks a FIFA-certified pitch, and we need to question the football managers. Suspend all these international sporting competitions where we've been disgracing ourselves, and let's get back to the basics."

"That committee [coach search committee] that they've set up should be disbanded; we don't need to rush for coaches. How many coaches are we going to have within a few months?"

Ablakwa hints at initiating a bipartisan parliamentary probe into the budget of the AFCON 2023 tournament, deeming the current situation unconstitutional and illegal. He underscores the necessity for parliamentary approval before spending public funds and pledges to present a motion to Speaker Alban Bagbin for a comprehensive bipartisan parliamentary inquiry.

Ghana faced disappointment in AFCON 2023, exiting the tournament winless after losses to Cape Verde and draws with Egypt and Mozambique.
