Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has announced his candidacy for the NPP primary in the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region as the by-election approaches.

He is currently serving a ban from all football-related activities after being filmed taking bribe in the Number 12 documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The NPP primary is scheduled for April 13 in preparation for the upcoming by-election, triggered by the passing of former deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, on March 7, 2024.

Nyantakyi, who hails from Ejisu through his mother, seeks to fill the vacant position left by the late Honourable John Kumah, positioning himself as a contender for the leadership role.

While the full list of candidates is yet to be disclosed, Nyantakyi emerges as a prominent figure within the NPP, garnering support from party members as a potential candidate for the constituency.

Known for his interest in politics, Nyantakyi's decision to contest in the Ejisu primary marks a significant step in his political aspirations, with a potential leadership role awaiting him if successful in the by-election.

Having served as the President of the Ghana Football Association from 2005 to 2018, Nyantakyi's foray into local politics signals a new chapter in his public career, with the possibility of leading the Ejisu Constituency in the months leading up to the 2024 general election in December.
