Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Robert Prosinecki has applied for the vacant Black Stars coaching job.

The four-time Africa champions are without a substantive coach following the sacking of Chris Hughton in the wake of the Black Stars abysmal performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Hughton and the entire technical team of the Black Stars were shown the exit door following the team’s calamitous performance at the continental showpiece.

However, Prosinecki’s agent, Vukoja Josip, has confirmed his client has submitted his application to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as he aims to secure the job.

This is not the first time the Croatian tactician has shown interest in coaching the Black Stars. He previously applied for the role in 2012 after Goran Stevanovic was sacked, but did not get the job.

In recent years, he has managed several clubs, including Red Stars Belgrade, Kayserispor, Denizlispor, and Olimpija Ljubljana, as well as the Azerbaijani national team and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most recently, he briefly led Rudeš, a club based in Zagreb, before leaving the position.

Ghana bowed out at group stage after failing to win any of their group games. The West Africa powerhouse drew two games and suffered a defeat against, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
