Mauritanian head coach, Amir Abdou, is now a prominent name on the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) list of potential candidates to succeed Chris Hughton as the head coach of the Black Stars.

Renowned Mauritania football expert, Lassana Camara, reports that Abdou's impressive performance with Mauritania at the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire has garnered interest from nations beyond Ghana.

Under Abdou's leadership, Mauritania secured its first victory at the AFCON and advanced to the round of 16 for the first time, drawing attention from Burkina Faso, Algeria, and Cote D’Ivoire.

Amir Abdou has previously showcased his coaching prowess by guiding Comoros to the round of 16 at the 2021 AFCON, achieving a historic milestone for the island nation, including a memorable 3-2 victory over Ghana in the group stage.

Ghana faced disappointment in the 2023 AFCON, bowing out in the group stage after failing to secure a win against Cape Verde, Mozambique, and Egypt.

Following this underwhelming performance, Chris Hughton was relieved of his duties. A five-man committee has been established to appoint a new head coach for the Black Stars within the next 21 days, and Amir Abdou has emerged as a compelling option for consideration.
